Plus Size BloomChic Review: Pool Day Try-On, Honest Fit Notes

BloomChic sent over a few pieces for me to try, and the timing worked out perfectly since I had a pool day with friends planned that same day. So this turned into a two-in-one: a genuine plus size BloomChic review and a real-time test of whether the bikini they sent would actually be what I wore to the pool. BloomChic Swimwear: The Real Test of the Day
Since the whole point of this try-on was figuring out my pool outfit, let's start with the swimwear.
The Leopard Print Cross-Straps Bikini Top in a size 18-20/2X paired with the Leopard Print Ruched Tight-Fit Bikini Bottoms in a 22-24/3X ended up being exactly what I wore to the pool that day, which says a lot on its own.
The top did roll slightly, which is something I've come to expect with a belly and this style of cut, so that wasn't a dealbreaker for me. My only real critique was wanting slightly more coverage on the sides, though I want to be clear I wasn't spilling out anywhere, it was more a personal preference than an actual fit failure. There's no way to adjust or switch out the back straps, but you can adjust the strap length itself, and once it was set, it felt genuinely supportive.
The bottoms are where this set really won me over. As designed, they sit with more coverage in the back, but I personally prefer to wear my bikini bottoms reversed for more front coverage, so I flipped them around. Reversed, they gave full coverage over my belly with a bit more cheek showing in the back, which is exactly my preferred fit. If you're someone who also likes to experiment with reversing bikini bottoms for more customized coverage, this style works well for that.
Bottom line on the swimwear: this was a genuine win. Comfortable, cute, and I didn't need to change before actually getting in the pool.
BloomChic Tops: Mixed Results, One Clear Favorite
I tried two tops from this BloomChic order, and they landed pretty differently.
The Supersoft Stretchy Pleated Tank Top in beige, size 18-20/2X, was soft and comfortable, but the fit felt a little off for me. The straps showed more than I expected, and I wasn't entirely sure what kind of bra situation would work seamlessly underneath it. It also ran fairly generous through the body, to the point that I think sizing down could have been the better call. It wasn't as sheer as I initially worried it might be, though.
The Supportive Bra Pleated Fitted Tank Top in light brown, also an 18-20/2X, had a built-in bra, which sounds great in theory, but the padding is sewn in and the size didn't quite match my bust, so it created a visible outline both with and without an additional bra underneath. If I kept this piece long-term, I'd probably consider removing the built-in padding entirely and treating it as a regular tank, since the fabric itself is genuinely comfortable and the ruching detail is cute. As it comes out of the package, though, I don't think I'd recommend this particular style to others based on the built-in bra fit.
That said, I still planned to bring this piece to wear over my swimsuit for lounging afterward, simply because the fabric felt that good, even if the bra situation wasn't quite right for me.
BloomChic Bottoms: A Genuine Standout
The Pull-On Folded Hem High-Rise Denim Shorts in blue vintage, size 24/3X, turned out to be my favorite piece from this entire BloomChic try-on.
They're incredibly stretchy for a denim short, which immediately stood out to me. My personal preference is at least a 5-inch inseam to avoid thigh chafing, and these ran a bit shorter than that, but the length still looked good on and didn't ride up during wear, which mattered more to me than the exact inseam number once I had them on. The waist has a tie detail, which I loved, since it means you can fully close any gap at the waistband regardless of your exact proportions. They also have real, deep pockets, which is always a win in my book.
My only fit note was some extra fabric bunching around the leg openings, likely a combination of my belly shape and shorter leg length, though I'm not entirely sure sizing down would have solved that specific issue. Overall, though, these are absolutely a keeper, and I planned to wear them as my after-pool, drive-home outfit paired with the brown tank top.
Overall Plus Size BloomChic Review Verdict
After trying five pieces across swimwear, tops, and bottoms, my honest takeaway is that BloomChic has some genuine standouts, especially in swimwear and denim, alongside a couple of tops that didn't quite deliver on fit as designed.
The bikini set was comfortable enough and cute enough that it became my actual pool outfit that day, which is the best endorsement I can give any swimwear brand. The denim shorts were a similarly strong win, stretchy, functional, and flattering. The tops were where I ran into more inconsistency, particularly around built-in bra sizing and strap visibility, so if you're ordering tops from BloomChic, I'd pay close attention to bust sizing specifically and consider that built-in padding may not match every body the same way.
